Wordless Wednesday – Saying Goodbye

I'm writing this from my grandma's room in Hospice and I can say that this has been the toughest time of my life. I don't have a lot of words to say right now… I think they are stuck somewhere behind the tears. But for this Wordless Wednesday I thought it was only appropriate to pay a small tribute to her. These photos were all taken in 1990 or 1991 during our special trips to the Happiest Place on Earth. As she prepares for her Homecoming in Heaven I hold these memories so very closely to my heart.

The Best of Disney on Pinterest – 6/11-6/17

The Internet was buzzing last week with news of the grand reopening of California Adventure, but Pinterest was still the place to go for any Disney thing you can imagine! From tea time, to 90s prime time TV, to true Disney confessions, here are a few of my favorites pins from last week.

Flashback Friday – California Dreamin

Disney California Adventure’s big day arrived with all the fanfare that a grand reopening deserves, and as lines for the newest blockbuster, e-ticket attraction soared to 4+ hours, I couldn’t help but smile at memories of a DCA ghost town of yore. But, say what you may, a little bit of me will always miss the irreverence of a ride on the Superstar Limo and a lot of me will always miss a lazy afternoon spent cooling off with Califia and friends at a showing of Golden Dreams.

So, bring on Buena Vista Street, bring on Carsland, and red trolleys, and race cars, but please understand if you find me scouring a Park map for any sign of a titanium sun or a good place to find some strips, dips, and chips.

Eureka!

In honor of Disney California Adventures big day, I wanted to share one of my favorite memories from the DCA of yesterday… the Eureka parade cruised the parade route at DCA, on and off, for about a year and half, but suffered the same fate of most of California Adventures opening elements. I know this is probably another attraction where I find myself in the minority, but I really enjoyed the Eureka parade. In fact, I’ll admit, that I think it was more visually captivating than any other daytime parade that has graced the performance corridor in DCA. I know, I know, you think I’m crazy, but, unlike the vast majority of visitors to the Park, I dont live in California and when I visit I like to soak up all of the California goodness I can find. 🙂

Eureka celebrated the cultural diversity and beauty of the Golden State. From Latin dancers, to LA icons, to the beach, and even a walking Golden Gate Bridge, this was a colorful, artistic tribute to all things California, and I couldn’t have loved it more!

So, while, I’m definitely looking forward to seeing the new DCA later this summer, I’ll always look back with great fondness for the original Park.

Come back tomorrow for a Flashback Friday look at some of my other favorite DCA memories.

Wordless Wednesday – ‘Til Then Sleeping Beauty, Sleep On

Thanks to Focused on the Magic for hosting another great Disney Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop! Today’s hop is all about Disney Princesses… this scene from the Sleeping Beauty Castle Walk-Through is one of my favorites. As you enter this room the music quietly plays Sleeping Beauty’s “lullaby” as the projections change to show the Three Good Fairies extinguishing the candles for the kingdom.
